one camera.
I'm Robi. I take photographs, I make videos about the places I end up in, and I'm slowly turning that into work I do for other people.
I started taking photographs the way most people do: on holiday, badly, with a camera I did not understand. What kept me at it was noticing that the frames I actually liked were never the ones I planned. They were the second after someone stopped posing, or a doorway I nearly walked past.
So that is more or less what I do now. I shoot in whatever light is already there, I talk more than I direct, and I take a lot of frames to capture the candid moments. It means shoots feel like a walk with someone rather than an appointment, which is the whole point, because people who are relaxed look like themselves.
The travel work and the journal on this site are what I do when I am not working: trips through Japan, Madeira, Ireland, Italy, Greece, and a lot of Romania, plus the videos that come out of them. That is where I learned most of what I know and it is still where I learn the rest. The client work is newer, and what I can promise you is that I will care about your photos more than the price suggests I should.

How I work
Daylight,
and not much else.
Natural light is why the pictures look the way they do. I work with whatever is already in the room plus a couple of small continuous lights, which keeps a shoot feeling like a conversation instead of a production, and keeps the photos looking like the place actually looks.
It also means I am straight with you about a space before you book it. Send me a couple of phone photos and I will tell you exactly what I can get out of the room, so nobody is guessing on the day.

My current kit is a small one that I picked specifically with run & gun an ease of use in mind. I'm really focusing on both photography and videography and I wanted something that clearly can do both, and doesn't really gets in my way of creating in the style I like to create.
